The Copenhagen-based race car driver demonstrated peak form in the Michelin Le Mans Cup but returned empty-handed from the Belgian F1 circuit.
It’s been a challenging season for Sebastian Gravlund and his teammate Tim Creswick. Despite ongoing issues in the weekend’s championship round, Gravlund made a strong impression with his impressive driving skills.
After a crash during qualifying caused by Creswick, the session was interrupted. Per the regulations, this meant the car had to start from the back of the grid, with the silver-rated driver, Sebastian Gravlund, taking the start.
“Tim was unlucky in qualifying, which meant I had to start from the back of a field full of less experienced drivers. It was quite a challenge because I had to push the car forward as much as possible while avoiding accidents and not making mistakes myself,” said Sebastian Gravlund, who faced the challenge head-on.
And things went better than expected. During his stint, Sebastian managed to navigate past incidents and fought his way up twenty positions to eighth place before handing the car over to Tim Creswick.
“It was really fun. I drove fast and consistently, overtaking and genuinely having a great race. Even though we knew Tim would have to compete against all the professional drivers and would likely drop back in the field, it was just great to fight our way forward,” Sebastian Gravlund reflected on his time behind the wheel.
Unfortunately, the Inter Europol Competition car did not reach the checkered flag. After a safety car period, Creswick collided with another car, forcing the team to retire due to damages.
“A disappointing ending, to put it simply. Tim drove well and sensibly, but the race still ended prematurely. It’s frustrating that we didn’t get a result that reflects our speed and effort. But that’s motorsport; you just have to swallow the disappointment and look ahead,” said Sebastian Gravlund, who will be back in the car in about a month.
The next race takes place when the fifth round of the Michelin Le Mans Cup is held at Mugello in Italy on September 29.
