Sebastian Gravlund

Gravlund was flying and took important points for the Danish championship

The races at Ring Djursland over the weekend offered tight battles in the Formula 4 class. Sebastian Gravlund and Team FormulaSport were flying and reduced the gap to the leader in the championship.

With the best lap time among the Formula 4 cars in qualifying, a high-paced race weekend was set from the start. A misunderstanding before the start turned everything upside down in the first heat.

– We drove behind the safety car around the track to get to the starting grid, and at some point, it drove a bit strangely. I misunderstood what its intentions were, so I overtook it … and you’re not allowed to do that, no matter what, admits Sebastian Gravlund and continues:

– I’m still very dissatisfied and bewildered about the safety car driving, but the consequence was disqualification from the race, and I have to accept that.

In an unbelievable manner, the majority of the field chose to follow Sebastian’s example, including the closest competitors – so in reality, the incident didn’t cost anything.

And yet. Due to the low number of finishing drivers in the heat, it was not possible to form the starting grid for the next heat, and therefore, a lottery had to be drawn. Sebastian lost the draw dramatically when he drew the last place. In such a situation, there is only one strategy: Attack.

An attack there was indeed. After stalking for a couple of laps in the first heat on Sunday, the red and white Formula 4 racer sprinted up through the field. Towards the end of the heat, he tried in every possible way to overtake the driver in third place, who managed to keep the eager Gravlund behind him. From 12th to 4th place in a single heat is quite acceptable.

At noon, it was time for another heat, and from fifth place, Sebastian drove to the front of the race. One competitor followed closely behind him, but Sebastian defied all attacks and crossed the line as the winner of the heat.

Also, in the fourth and final heat of the weekend, Sebastian started from fifth place. And once again, he drove forward in the field. Already after the first lap, he was the best Formula 4 driver in the field, and again in this heat, he had to defend himself as best he could against attacks from behind. Once again, he succeeded, and with three solid results in the books, he can look back on a successful race weekend with good points for the championship:

– I knew this could be one of the good weekends, so I’m happy that it ended that way too. The speed has been there from the start, and there were some cool battles along the way, so it’s hard to be sad about it, says a satisfied Sebastian Gravlund.

– The gap to the first place in the championship has been reduced, and with two rounds left, there is still an opportunity to catch up and take the lead. It will be an exciting task, but it is the goal for both the team and myself, and I believe we can do it.

There are four weeks until the next race in the Danish championship, which will be held at Padborg Park. However, the week before, it is the Spanish championship at the Motorland track between Zaragoza and Barcelona.
